Stressed at Christmas: Cut back on your schedule. You don’t have to attend every party or accept every invitation. Sit down with your December calendar and reserve some evenings for peace and quiet. (The secret words are: “I’m sorry; my schedule won’t allow it.”)
Cee Harmon’s insight:
You can also set a spending cap for yourself, and covenant not to spend more than a certain amount for any one gift, no matter who it’s for.
Reduce your gift list. Even one less person can be a significant savings of time, money, and energy.
John Piper Teaching on Self Esteem and Identity in God
According to John Piper, “You were made to be stunned by God, not just feel good about yourself. You’ll only discover who you were meant to be when you find your identity in him.”
Being Happy in God
I am not here to make you feel good about yourself. That’s a low salvation. That’s a low-level, American gospel message. I am here to make you so happy in God — to help you feel so good about the glory, majesty, beauty, justice, love, truth, and power of God — so that in all that, you forget about yourself.
Some of you have heard me say, “Nobody goes to the Grand Canyon to increase his self-esteem.” Because on the edge of the Grand Canyon, as you feel your soul being drawn out into this vast opening, that’s not what happens. What happens is wonder and awe, which is what you were made for. Heaven will not be a hall of mirrors in which you like what you see.
Heaven – Jesus Everywhere Satisfying Your Soul
In fact, I just have this suspicion there won’t be any mirrors in heaven because anything good and beautiful about you will be radiated back to you from the other people that you’re loving so much it just bounces back to you. But mainly it’s going to be about Jesus everywhere satisfying your soul.
So, thoughts about you in this world cause us so much grief. We think that the solution is “If I could just feel better about me — better about the way I look, better about my height, my weight, my complexion, my hair, my mathematical ability — if I could just feel better about me, I’d be healed.” Read full story…desiringgod.org
Disaster Relief: All 47 Salvation Army units – from Pensacola to south Florida – are on standby and eager to assist residents in need. The Salvation Army is currently working on establishing five strategic staging areas which include Miami, Fort Myers, Palm Beach County, Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
Cee Harmon’s insight:
Along with the 32 canteens (mobile kitchens), The Salvation Army also has a fleet of equipment which includes two bunkhouses, two shower trailers, one generator and a Ford utility truck, which will be deployed as needed to the Hurricane Irma impacted areas.
The Salvation Army has more than 3,000 trained volunteers and staff in Florida, ready to offer a warm meal, bottled water, coffee or offer emotional and spiritual care.
The Mia Moo Fund is dedicated to raising awareness and funds towards research, treatments and causes of cleft lip & palate.
Cee Harmon’s insight:
The organization began in 2014 after Mia Robertson, daughter of Jase and Missy Robertson (Duck Dynasty), completed surgery for her cleft palate. As Mia entered surgery, thousands of supportive fans tweeted, blogged and talked about how strong and beautiful she was.
It was both empowering and inspiring. It has since become our mission to bring this type of support and love to each and every child that suffers from cleft lip and palate.

The situation in Yemen is being described as the “largest humanitarian crisis in the world,” with a total of 20.7 million people in that country alone — 10.3 million of which are children — in desperate need of help, according to figures from Save the Children.
“We know that when the funding is available to help, we save lives,” said Margaret Schuler, senior vice president of international programs for World Vision.
“When we wait to respond until a famine is declared, it is simply too late. To save lives, we need more than compassion. We need Americans to see those in need and not turn away.”
According to the U.N., in Yemen alone, a child under the age of five dies from preventable causes every 10 minutes, and 7 million people are on the verge of famine. In Somalia and Nigeria, another 7 million people don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Read full story…nbcnews.com
