dr. larycia hawkins - wheaton college professor wearing hijab

Wheaton College students and faculty often brag that they are the “Harvard of evangelicalism.” Now the school must decide to what extent that is true.

Dr. Larycia Hawkins, an Episcopalian, decided to wear a hijab, a traditional Muslim head-covering, in solidarity with Muslims during the Advent season. The political science professor publicly claimed that Muslims and Christians “worship the same God.” Wheaton must now decide what kind of evangelical college they wish to be.

Laura Story: “Your Painful Story Brings God Glory”

Inspirational Article by Laura Story: “A good friend, who is a pastor, has a child who is a heroin addict. I’m sure he was tempted to hide his family problems from the church where he worked. But isolation rarely leads to anything good…”

Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.desiringgod.org

According to Laura Story, God uses our stories to heal others, and they don’t have to be finished.  She says they don’t have to be wrapped up into a neat, tidy bow with all the answers before God can use them. When people are willing to share their struggles, they can help others who are living under that same burden.

Laura Story – “God of Every Story” Music Video

Lyrics to God of Every Story

Amy she lives down the street
And her husband left her just last week.
She feels like giving up,
But she’s holding on to hope.

John lost his job six months ago.
He’s got a wife, three kids at home.
Doesn’t know what to do,
He’s praying for a breakthrough.

Some wanna raise a fist up high,
Blame all the hard things on the Father in the sky,
But He hears when we call.
We can trust him through it all.

He’s the God of every story,
He sees each tear that falls.
We may not understand but one thing is certain.
He is faithful, He’s a faithful God.

Jordan’s had a lifetime of hard days
And all the pills won’t take the pain away,
But before he hits the ground
He see Mercy reaching down.

He’s the God of every story,
He sees each tear that falls.
We may not understand but one thing is certain.
He is faithful, He’s a faithful God.

His ways are holier
Than we could ever comprehend.
When our world is shaking,
He holds us in the palm of His hand.

Young Martin is thankful he’s alive;
The doctors said he might not survive.
That was seven years ago…
What a miracle.

And now there’s this new baby girl
And with one breath she’s changed our whole world.
Some say she looks like dad,
But she looks like grace to me.
Your grace to me.

You’re the God of every story,
You see each tear that falls.
We may not understand but one thing is certain.
You are faithful, You are faithful.

You’re the God of every story,
No matter what I’m going through.
I may not understand, You are God and I am just a man.
Yeah I’m forever trusting in Your plan.
One thing is certain
You are faithful, You’re faithful God.

Reverend Franklin Graham: Is Christian Persecution Reaching Biblical Proportions?

Reverend Franklin Graham expressed shock over the “sobering” report that stated Christianity might go extinct in Iraq within a span of five years. The report Graham was referring to was made by the English charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), which stated that ISIS’ continuous persecution of Christians and strict imposition of Islam in Iraq could obliterate the Christian faith in the area.

Sourced through Scoop.it from: elevatechristiannetwork.com

According to the ACN report, fear of genocide has prompted an exodus of Christians, notably from the Middle East and parts of Africa.  Christianity is on course to disappear unless emergency help is provided on a massively increased scale at an international level.

Where Does the Power to Forgive Come From?

The Power of Forgiveness
The Power of Forgiveness

“One must first be shown mercy (and accept it), before he can be merciful to someone else.”  When someone wrongs us, our first and most natural reaction is typically to desire for them to be punished. If it is within our power to do so, we often take delight in punishing them ourselves.

Sourced through Scoop.it from: christandpopculture.com

According to James Hoskins, only a person whose soul is truly free can forgive horrible injustice committed against them.  He says that one must first be shown mercy (and accept it), before he can be merciful to someone else.
